Shower floor regrout in Quakers Hill: cracked grout around the waste
Even a fairly new shower can start leaking once the floor grout cracks. In this Quakers Hill house, the grout lines around the floor waste had opened up. We regrouted the floor, replaced the silicone and sealed it in about 2 hours, without removing any tiles.

The job at a glance
- Location: Quakers Hill, NSW 2763
- Property: house
- Problem: cracked, open grout lines on the shower floor, especially around the waste
- Work: degrouted and regrouted the floor, replaced the silicone and sealed it
- Time on site: about 2 hours
- Back in use: after 24 hours of curing
- Tiles removed: none
- Completed: October 2026
What we found
The grout lines running out from the floor waste had cracked and opened up, and there were gaps along the edges of the floor. The waste is the lowest point of a shower, so water sits around it every time the shower runs. Cracked grout there lets water straight through to the bed under the tiles.
The tiles were sound, so the floor didn't need to come up.
What we did
- Raked out the cracked grout from the floor joints.
- Cut out the old silicone along the floor edges.
- Regrouted the floor, filling the joints around the waste completely.
- Resiliconed the floor-to-wall junctions.
- Sealed the floor and left it to cure for 24 hours.
